when you make something and keep it

I very, very rarely make something for myself. I got this beaut of an amethyst cab, and made a beast of a ring in 18ct and silver, with some reticulated panels on. As amethyst is my birthstone (and my biblical namesake was a seller of purple), I quite fancied it. I hadn't sized it when making it, and lo and behold, it was a perfect fit. Meant to be I thought. Wore it when visiting my parents the day I finished it.

Best not fall out with her, then... That's a beautiful, regal "beast of a ring" - wouldn't look out of place on the finger of a mediaeval pope or a Babylonian monarch!

At least with bezels that are meant to be wavy, it stops having to faff around getting them straight etc. Nearly all my bezels are wavy too - but not meant to be, I spend ages trying to get them neat and tidy.

Thats a lovely Cab and a very nice ring my family quite often end up with bits from me usually pieces that have flaws that the average person wouldnt notice, My wife is now the proud owner of a lovely boulder opal ring that I made because the stone cracked when I applied too much pressure with the bezel pusher luckily it was in a dark bit of stone so not too noticeable but I wouldnt sell it 8430

May be perverse, but I only shape them after they are made and in in place, so they are all straight to start with. As the jewellery I make is beaten up/weathered looking I find it even more important to make it well. Here's a stack of wavy bezels on some recent rings

Unusual, beautiful. I also love the wavy edges. I recently made a reticulated pendant with silver balls and an agate cab. Did the reticulation on sterling then read instructions about how to do it after. seems that I could still do it after a 34 year layoff!
