Are these solder cutting pliers?
They don't look the same as the picture on the site I got them from? Wondering if a mistake has been made or if it's just a different kind.
Cheers

Doesn't look like they'll cut anything much!
Tin snips used to be the tool for that job?

I have used small tin snips for cutting my solders quite successfully for over 50 years, Check out these £9 snips on Amazon; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prestige-jewellers-Shears-cutters-scissors/dp/B00MQ9204M/ref=sr_1_30?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1449675149&sr=1-30&keywords=tin+snips

Or these for £12 ;http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-67531-Jewellers-Snips-Straight/dp/B0002GV02E/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1449675450&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=drapers+jewellers+tin+snips

Yes, they're one style of prong-lifting pliers.

Here's another kind:http://www.cooksongold.com/Jewellery-Tools/Prong-Lifting-Pliers-prcode-997-3001
I've got some of the second kind, but to be honest I'm not sure most people really need them most of the time; most of the time supporting the back of the prong against the bench peg and using a pusher is probably less damaging to the prong tip.

Here are the solder cutting pliers: http://www.cooksongold.com/Jewellery-Tools/Solder-Cutting-Pliers-prcode-999-72F
They are very useful (I can't use snips for anything as I'm unavoidably left handed), but mine needed modification as solder pallions had a tendency to get trapped in the narrow and very roughly machined slot in the lower jaw.

What they actually have use for is opening small split rings.
