The title says it all. A friend of mine who used to make some silver jewellery has just started making in silver clay and insists that pmc3 is a totally different animal. Is it, or has she been misled.

The properties of the different clays by pmc are sumamrised quite nicely here http://pmcguild.com/getting-started-with-pmc/types-of-pmc/

Sounds like its meant to give a stronger result than the earlier fine silver clays, no experience of it myself though as am a firm sterling clay convert :)

I'm a little confused to the question... PMC3 being a 'totally different animal' to what, exactly?

If what you're referring to is Art Clay silver clay, then I believe they've tweaked the formula so that the user has a longer working time... I have some, but haven't used it yet.

I also have some PMC Flex which also boasts longer working time and is more flexible.

She said silver clay is the modern stuff and PMC is what they used to use. All I know is that it stays wet longer.

Hmm.. interesting..

Is 'Silver Clay' the actual brand/product name? Also, is this product available just in powder form (and then you add water to it) or is it only available in lump form (as in the PMC3 and Art Clay products)?

I know there are some other fine silver metal clay products out in the wild but I don't know of any UK stockists:

MetalMagic (U.S.A - http://www.metalclays.com/c/223/metalmagic)
Aussie Metal Clay (Australia - http://aussiemetalclay.com/)
FYI (U.S.A For Your Inspiration - http://www.vallewis.net/FYI-Silver-Metal-Clay-999-_c_41.html) Silver Metal Clay

There is now PMC Flex stocked by Cooksongold (produced by Mitsubishi Chemicals, the same company who make PMC3) that stays in its flexible state and I believe can be fired in that state without having to wait until it gets bone-dry hard.

Not sure I am seeing her tonight so I will ask more questions, I think she said you can add water to it, so it sounds as if its powder doesnt it. Watch this space........
