Hello all,

Been very inactive on the forum in recent months due to a variety of reasons, but I'm back making jewellery again on a regular basis now which Im pleased about!

Anyway.. onto my question. Does anyone have any experience of working with bronze?

I know that true bronze is roughly 10% tin and 90% copper, but where would you source tin from and are there any peculiarities associated with producing items in bronze such as high melting points, soldering issues, and so on?

Thanks for any info on this.

Nick

http://www.carnmetals.co.uk/ for tin; not really done much beyond some basic casting of the stuff. More pleasant than brass due to the lack of zinc fuming.

Aluminium bronze isn't really bronze, but it forges quite nicely.

Nice to see you back Nick :)

Pierced it, textured it and soldered it to silver (using silver solder), been fairly easy to use for all of these, no real issues.
