I have a customer order for a 24x12 marquise cabochon that I'd like to set in a claw setting.
All the tutorials online show how to set a diamond cut marquise but not a cabochon. The stone is quite thick too.
Any help would be appreciated.

In view of what you say, I would suggest you make a bezel setting and then burr or file away half rounds almost to the back plate, leaving the remainder to act as claws.

You will need six claws, two at each end and two in the middle. So there will be four areas filed away, two on each side.

The paired end claws, are created by cutting through the points if the bezel. That will also relieve the fragile ends of the stone when setting.

The function of claws is to retain the stone but show off its beauty. Beginners tend to make the claws much too prominent, so defeating the object. Dennis.
