Hello

I have a claw setting for a square ct diamond and have made a shank. I don't know the best way to fit te two, stupid though it sounds...
I don't want to simply plonk it on the top as it will protrude too much. Is is just a case of using a square needle file to carve into the shank?
This feels like such a silly problem but I don't work with diamonds or indeed claws ever, so am stumped as to how to go about construction.
Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated, have attached a pic for reference.

Thanks
Ali

As the shank is quite wide, I would probably file both:

1. File a groove into the base of the setting with a square needle file.
2. File rectangular notches on each side of the shank to fit this new base.

I understand that you are aiming to lower the setting, and this would allow you to do so. Dennis.
