Hello,

This is possibly a slightly odd question - I have a pair of flat paralell action pliers and have noticed a nick in the jaw (a tiny ridge on the very edge) which is causing tool marks). It may have been something I did or I may have just never noticed before, but at any rate its been too long to have them replaced. On the basis that I'm probably not the first person this has ever happened to I am therefore wondering are there any 'repair' techniques to make the jaws perfectly flat again?

Many thanks,

Faith

Those piers are usually made from hardened steel which cannot be filed Faith, only ground with wheels and sharpening stones or diamond plates.
Work as you might, the chances are that they will end up far from parallel.

I would suggest that you cover the damaged beak(s) with one or two layers of masking tape from a hardware or paint shop. Alternatively you can wrap them in thin aluminium sheet, as you would the jaws of a vice.

Dennis.

you could always use some other coating - like this one: http://www.alchemyandice.com/tool-magic-white-rubber-coating-for_plier-tips-2oz-jar.html

they can be purchased in the UK. I have one for portability. They are available at Eternal (probably other places too) http://www.eternaltools.com/stones-sharpeners/eze-lap-diamond-files

These seem to be much cheaper than Eternal - are they the same?
