Hi
I have started making jewellery charms from art silver clay.
When I fire them for the first time I know I need to hold a peachy colour. However I have recently experienced a problem with a finished polished piece tarnishing and have been advised that firing the charm again could help. The only thing is, now the piece is silver how do I know when it is at the correct heat?! The last thing I want it to do is melt!! :help:
Thanks

Well all silver tarnishes and you might be keeping it where the air is particularly rich in pollutants.

It would do no harm, other than the need to re-polish, to re-fire in almost complete darkness, so that you can keep it at the dullest possible glow and then re-pickle.

My feeling is though that it would not prevent tarnishing again and I would just clean it up in silver dip, which is quick and easy. Then keep it in a closed bag or container with an anti tarnish tab, available on line. Dennis.
