setting very transparent stones

I have a customer's stone, a very transparent, faceted, rectangular green tourmaline to make into a ring. I have tried setting it in a box setting (it needs to be rubover ) but every little mark in the setting shows. Any suggestions?

Yes, you need to plan for this, either by having the inside with an interesting texture, or leaving a large see through hole.

Unfortunately I only have a picture of a cabochon to hand, but the link to my collection below shows a ring with a very translucent pink tourmaline, on textured silver. Dennis.
