View Full Version : Hello from North yorkshire
Hello
I'm fairly new to silver jewelery making. I love the info on this forum, now I'm registered I'll be looking at all the photos. This is just a hobby for me as a beginner. So far I've done a few classes and have spent a small fortune on the basic equipment. I'm just waiting for my next delivery of polishing wheels so I can hopefully improve my finishing which is pretty poor.

Hi Sue welcome from me too. It's a bit quiet on here with all the professionals busy with Christmas, but sure they will catch up with you

It's beginners luck, trust me ;)
Hi Sue,
Welcome to the forum. I'm a hobbyist like you - one day I might even post some pictures!

Thanks for all your welcome notes. At the moment I'm fighting with a prong setting for a pendant that I started in a class. So far I've melted about 5 prongs lol. But finally made a bail. Only thing is I'm not sure it's going to hold the stone in place or if it will just fall to the bottom. It's an odd rectangle shape and I'm trying to make it in a rectangular frame without it touching the frame. Might have been a bit too ambitious.

That's an OK idea to create a rectangular pendant, but you need a bearer the shape of the stone, or heavy prongs with notches to support it. As it is a class, no doubt your tutor will be on top of the problem (fingers crossed) Dennis.
Thanks Dennis, sadly class is no longer so 'home alone'. There was no mention of notches. So I think this project might have to be put aside for a while and I'll ask for more advice when christmas is over so I have more time. My bail was rubbish too. Very wonky.
