It's a bit quiet here this weekend ;)
So I thought I'd share a quick pic of a fairly recent piece. My daughter informed me that one of her teachers only likes red, so I needed to quickly produce an end of term gift incorporating a colour I barely ever use. I found in my stash this gorgeous lampwork bead by the incredibly talented Sam at Blackheart beads, and made a piece of kinetic jewellery by soldering some bits of scrap wire into a frame which, like the bead, spins freely on the headpin. Finished with hand dyed silk ribbons from Diane Turton at SowZere and a couple of my own lampwork spacers to create a toggle clasp.

Oh, I just love this. I like moveable pieces, things that spin on their axis and stuff. The finish is superb too. Lucky old teacher...

That's a great design George ~ the lampwork bead is beautiful and your unusual design sets it off nicely...it will be beautifully tactile from the movement of the pendant to the sensory delights of Diane's hand-dyed silk ribbon. Teach will love it!

I agree. That's gorgeous. Did the teacher deserve such a lovely gift? Do you really give gifts at the end of each term? Or did you mean end of year? My OH always says.. We never gave gifts when I was at school...[-X

Thats gorge! I bet the teacher was well made up with that! I love pieces that move.
Makes a change from the boring normal bottles of wine that they normally get anyway!

Lovely :Y:
wish I was your daughters teacher.
Did you flatten and drill the frame top/ bottom to pass the head pin through or create a wire loop?
:)))

Thanks all

Em, I just made a pair of jump rings, soldered them, then soldered the rest of the frame on. A bit of judicious cutting away of a charcoal block made the whole thing fairly easy to hold together when I ran out of hands!

Clever! So the frame is two bits of wire.
:D would like to be an Octopus sometimes when jewellery making ;)

What an innovative and fantastic design. I love it! :Y: Must admit I wondered how you created the holes in the frame for the headpin to go through but after reading a previous post reply, soldering a couple of jump rings onto the frame is just lateral thinking. It's easy when you know how!
