Hi,

Been looking at emery sticks - I know I can make my own but have been looking at buying some instead. I have been looking at a rival site to cooksons so won't post the link but they list the grit as 8/0 or 1G etc. does anyone know how the grades convert to more familiar grits such as 240 or 400?

Have looked on the web but with no joy.

Many thanks.

Well the truth is I don't really use buff sticks as I find them big and clumsy.
When I need something abrasive, I use emery boards from the chain chemists, because they can be cut as required with a craft knife and there is always a safe edge.

Less frequently I reach for these plastic things, which have a band of abrasive, to move along when the end wears out. I don't have a clue what they are called, but found them at Eurotools and Findings about ten years ago.

As for grits I try not to be too aggressive and just go by feel. Dennis.
