I've just seen a nice variation on thrumming - using dental floss sticks instead. Wipe the floss on polish, then polish nooks and crannies.

The obvious drawback is that you can't run it through a form as you could with thrumming thread; but could be handy.

Great tip
Excellent for micro work too, I imagine.

Ps remember not to mix it up with the one you use for your teeth. ;)

Do you mean those furry toothpicks, Peter? I know you can use cocktail sticks in your handpiece, until the break leaving a bit inside, that is. Dennis.

I have a little powered version of these - called a hummingbird, which is brilliant for getting into tricky spaces. I don't think they're made any more, which is a shame as they're also easy to adapt to make little enamel line sifters.

Interdental brushes make great little polishers, Dennis! Though in a handpiece the pressure you can apply is limited.

Intriguing! I have never heard of any of these things, yet always have a million tiny spaces I need to polish.

George, just to satisfy my curiousity, I bought one of those enamel line sifters that is converted from a Hummingbird - would it be possible to convert it to also use for flossing/thrumming? I've no idea what the original looked like.

Hi Elaine,
I'd have thought you could just get a pack of flossing heads - there are still some on ebay from time to time. I can't see that any modification has been made to the base unit at all.

Thank you George, I'll keep an eye out.
