The Marquise Shape.

When one of my dedicated shoppers came home with a new dress, I was told that all it needed now was a slim belt, so the leather strap I used was only 24mm wide.

This marquise shaped buckle was quite simple to construct from two arcs of square wire and once the ends were soldered, I had the option of fine tuning the space by inserting an oval mandrel to open it, or in this case of reducing it by squeezing in my fibre jaw vice.

Finally it was slightly swaged on a large bangle mandrel and completed by adding an offset cross bar and a hard drawn prong. Dennis.

I really like the belt buckle Dennis and love marquise shapes, in particular, as they look so tactile. Have you got any pics of how you have attached the buckle to the back too..?

Jules I don't have another picture, but I did a quick sketch:

At the top is an outline of the buckle with the offset cross piece and the prong.

Then there is the strap with a slot for the prong to pass through. The strap is folded and secured with the two part base metal rivet, using a hammer and the rather primitive setting tools supplied. A second rivet (not shown), is put on after adding the leather loop.

You can make you own rivets out of silver and sometimes I do, where they show when the belt is done up (second Picture). Dennis.
