Is it possibly laser engraved?

If it's a handmade one, I'd guess it was etched. I do this for complex text pieces where getting just one letter wrong would ruin the whole thing!

I think it was hand stamped if you look at the dec 2004 its not dead on and you can also see the indents from the stamp really nice job though.

Looking at etsy (where there are lots of these) I have a feeling it might be a mixture of techniques. Either that, or someone's invested in a stamping jig!

Hmm, even with the little mishap on the Dec 2004 part - it still seems a bit too neat to be done by hand.
Yes, maybe some kind of Jig was actually used.
Lovely Necklace though!

What is a stamping jig George?

There are a couple of different types Carole - one where you simply put all the stamps in a row into a holding mechanism and stamp simultaneously (better done with a press than a hammer!), the other is a little gadget that holds blanks perfectly with a movable bar that you line the base of the stamps against.

The first leaves too large a space for my taste, but is efficient. The second, I've only seen in pictures!! That's why I etch the tricky stuff :)

It does say in the listings that it's handstamped. The same seller has a bangle with about 3 "calendars" stamped onto it, it looks pretty much perfect! The lining up of the letters will also depend on the stamps you have, some are so difficult to line up perfectly. If they're using Infinity stamps then they're much easier to line up and mistakes are much less likely.
