Hi there, my name is Helen. I'm new to the forum. I have been a bench jeweller for 20 years and teach my own class.
When melting and pouring silver into an ingot mould in the class we have encountered bubbling on the surface of the metal when it is annealed and rolled. I'm not sure why this is happening, is it some kind of contamination? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Helen and welcome. I've had the same thing happen and would also be interested to know why.

Hi Hellen, welcome from me too, I am new to the forum as well.
Your problem might have to do with absorbing oxigen to your silver.
Do you pre heat your mould, thatīs also important to avoid condens when pouring your hot metal into a cold mould.
To avoid absorbing oxigen you can try to pour your metal thrue a flame you can create with another torch just over the opening of your mould.
The flame over the opening will use all the oxigen and there will nothing go into your ingot.

Thank you everyone and thank you willem. I do keep the flame on whilst pouring but ill try using another flame at the top of the mould😊
