Does anyone have any suggestions on a half-decent pair of nylon-jawed, snipe nose pliers? I picked up a cheap pair for tweaking settings, but the nylon jaws keep coming adrift from the screws. Just a bit too soft too.

I wrap mine in electrical tape. would that work?

Not sure - I've notched mine to help with alignment. Worth a shot (or shrink wrap, possibly).

Thin coat of tool magic or thin layer of moleskin on some regular pliers?

Otherwise, the eurotool version are a bit harder, but still very slippery.

I invested in a couple of Swanstrom ones with delrin ends but they're so slippery that they're no use at all. A very expensive mistake.

Now I've seen them, they might do nicely for my needs. Can I ask what size are the tips?

They're quite chunky on the ends Peter.

Failing other suggestions, short pieces of clear tubing on one or both beaks of round pliers might do. The tubing can be rotated or reversed as it wears out. Dennis.

I'm trying to move claws with them, so the notches in the ends both make sure the claws don't slip out as well as allowing me to twist them slightly to get the alignment - this is why the nylon being too soft is a pest.

Knipex pliers maybe Peter?

The 1,000 / 1,500 HV rated versions are glass reinforced polymer, strong but don't "nick" parts, could also be filed or sanded to suit a purpose? (cheap as well)

best wishes

Possibly - is that 98 62 02 http://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=art_detail&parentID=1324&groupID=1792&artID=32152 ?

Might be a little big, although it's difficult to tell for certain. The Swanstroms might be useful (albeit more expensive).

The pics of the Eurotools ones seem to use 2 plastic screws rather than 1 metal one (as on mine). Is there a UK stockist of them?

Palmer metals usually have a reasonable range of Eurotools stuff Peter - not sure if they've got these in stock, but they may be able to get them for you.

Yup that's the ones Peter, I have a set that I have ground the ends for inserting diodes, very strong considering they are coated GRP. Although a little bulky for Rings I'd imagine they are easily reformed to suit :)

I'm not a prong person, but it seems to me that guarded pliers are too bulky and inclined to slip and get out of shape adjusting prongs. My amateur approach would be to find or make a well fitting pronged or slotted tool for this (even a leather beveller, if one fits).

Something like that already exists as a prong lifter, Cookson 999CAM and could possibly work with an added vertical slot. Dennis.

I have that blue sticky stuff and have never used it. Perhaps I should get it out of my cupboard of darkness and try it out.
