I'm curious about electrum -I'd love to make something with it but no idea where to get and how would it be hallmarked? can it be hallmarked?

My understanding of electrum is that there is no fixed percentage between the gold and silver -
anywhere between 30-80% gold. As long as there is a minimum gold content of 375 parts per thousand it would be hallmarked as 9ct gold, 585 (I think) parts per thousand gold content would be 14ct. It would seem pointless using, for example, a gold content of between 58.5% and 84.9% as it would only be hallmarked as 14ct. It's also quite amusing that something that is 37.5% gold and 62.5% silver can be hallmarked as gold but not silver.

It's something I've looked into as i think it would be a nice selling point but didn't find a supplier, and with the current high gold price I'm disinclined to attempt my own alloy

Would not mixing up as 9ct then perhaps be a good venture for the 14-18-14 scrap pot, if any members have some...?
I'm interested partly to try it and partly because electrum sounds so romantic! (and unusual)
As an aside, I melted up some vermeil scrap into a fused ring and it looks just faintly yellow. Now I'm wondering about sending the ring to the Assay Office though....

For those with an iPhone/iPad there is an app called metalsmith suite - one of the features is a gold alloying calculator which will tell you how much to 14/18ct to use to get 10ct (American - they don't use 9ct)

I keep meaning to write something similar for Android. Starting with ring sizing and adding bits on.
First, I need a round tuit...

Do you write for the XDA forum, cos my hubby spends most of his life on it.
