Hi all,
I'm sending out a forum themed e-mail next week to our database of tens of thousands of jewellers in a bid to further promote our new Jewellery Making Forum. I had planned to feature small images of a few of you guys (some of our top 5 posters or so...) from the forum as part of the e-mail artwork. I hope this is okay, afterall it can only help increase your online profile as a result if you do infact have your own site. However, if anyone is uncomfortable with this, please let me know over the next few days either by replying to this thread or sending me a PM and I'll see it that you are not personally involved!

Thanks,
Adam :~:

omg, ........Adam you know i have the most posts and i am also a total noob dont you?

I am not sure it would be a very good advert for you to send pictures of my work, much as i would be very honoured if you did so, but at the end of the day i will leave it to you.

Spose i could aways be at the beginning of a comment along the lines of

"would you like to go from producing something like this *insert piccie of Su's work* to something like this *insert piccie of Nic's work(just a name for an example)*"

lol i might get away with it then lmao.

But honestly as i say, i would be honoured to be included, but totally understand if you move further down the line of top posters lol.

Meanwhile i have threads to read and reply before i get back to soldering lol [[]]

(oooo and just realised this is my 600th post......lets party!!!!!!!!)

Sorry, but I still don't get what the big deal is about being able to rack up masses of posts. Especially if few of them are on-topic.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but as an active member of several forums, moderator of another and admin for another still (which are nothing to do with jewellery), I'm only too aware how obsessed people become with getting their post counts up, regardless of how much drivel gets posted to do this.

Surely it should be about quality rather than sheer quantity?

bustagasket
22-08-2009, 10:05 AM
Actually, post counts have little to do with an enjoyment of chatting with people. If i see a thread and wish to comment, be it serious or just plain daft then i do so. Post counts are just a by product. And if they were reset to zero to morrow i would still post as much.

mizgeorge
22-08-2009, 10:21 AM
And that's just my point Su'.

I enjoy reading your chatter, but should it mean you qualify for anything special?

Why penalise those who are not natural chatters. It seems a very random way of deciding anything.

bustagasket
22-08-2009, 10:25 AM
Well i would imagine that that is for Adam to reply to as i cannot speak on his behalf. :)

But yes, i understand that you can be an active member without actually speaking, but then its a forum, speaking is what makes it work in my humble opinion.

mizgeorge
22-08-2009, 10:54 AM
Don't worry Su'. I didn't ask you to speak of his behalf
My point wasn't about not speaking at all, more about the on/off topic balance.

And since I can barely type at all at the moment as I'm still in plaster, I think that's enough from me.

Hi Su' and George :~:,

The competition to incentivise comments was used solely to encourage people to register and post those initial few comments as you stated George, interesting forums can become somewhat addictive. However we were not sure what kind of response our Cooksongold hosted forum would receive and I do indeed believe the competition has worked in encouraging some people to make those first initial strides towards registering and posting who may not have normally done so.

I also would agree with Su' that I believe people who are using the forum regularly would not be further incentivised to post more often for a better chance to win or for increased forum status, but simply because some members are chattier characters than others and possibly spend more time online. I'm also of the belief that the content on the forum is well balanced and the vast majority of the 'off-topic' chat is still appropriate as a forum is a social platform, a place for people to interact and socialise as well as discuss jewellery related topics, and we also encourage this.

In regards to the few members being featured on the forum, this was loosely based on members with high post-counts, however was not the only factor, post quality and relevance was also part of the criteria. As I'm sure you'd agree post-counts is the basic tangible measure than anyone would look at in terms of 'top posters' as a basic claim when trying to advertise and raise the profile of the forum.

To date we have received lots of extremely positive feedback, however do appreciate any concerns being raised from our members and work to ensure that the vast majority of forum content is highly relevant and accessible to all.

Thanks,
Adam :)

Thank you for clarifying things for us Adam, and i think you are right, this forum is very balanced between technical and informative posts and friends having a chat and getting to know each other posts.

Well i am more than content as you can tell from all the hours i spend on here lmao.

Just dont tell hubby i am here when i am supposed to be working shhhhhhhhhhhh

The Dragon

I have just read the email and I think it does exactly what it was designed to. There always needs to be a bit of carrot to make people read further and displaying real members makes it more immediate and personal. It will be interesting to see, statistically, what happens over the next few days in terms of membership up take.

Anyway I think the people choosen are all excellent ambassadors for the forum based on their work, the advice they contribute and the value of the questions they raise, I don't think I've ever noticed how many posts they have.

lesley
24-08-2009, 09:37 PM
Right, I'm not getting involved in the *how many posts * debate.:)

Just thought I'd pop in and say I received the email today and it obviously worked although I don't think I was tempted by the mug shots :).......or the offer of prizes.
I reckoned I'd spent so much money here so I want to be a part of it and I always like the idea of sharing tips and advice.

There is a rampant sex kitten inside every woman alive just bursting to get out and you can accentuate that inner "tigress" with some tastefully and expertly manufactured jewellery. It is all part of the overall package you know. :Y:

PS I think I missed my calling, I should be in advertising!

Actually, I do have some of that and its brilliant - invisible but evens skin tone beautifully. I also love the Chanel spray on stuff - great if you're going out.

Having said all that, I rarely wear make up nowadays, even though not so many years ago I wouldn't even go to the corner shop without it.
