I've been making jewellery for 2 years now and have decided to branch out and include ring making using wire. I was wondering apart from the ring mandrel which guage wire should I use. Any suggestions would be appreciated 

Bit of a piece of string question I'm afraid Kerry!

I'm guessing you're talking about wire wrapped rings, and these can be made with anything from really quite fine (0.6mm would be about the finest that works sensibly, and needs multiple loops in the shank) up to really quite heavyweight - 1.5mm is perfectly feasible, though not easy to wrap without tools. As a starting point, probably 0.8mm, with perhaps some 0.6 if you want to coil the whole shank.

I believe there are some excellent tutorials on Eni Oken's site.
