Really, I suppose, this is for Peter:

Do you remember supplying me with a Delrin stake some years ago Peter? Well, I now want to use it (I have to build up to these things!). What type of hammer should I be using please.

Fank you

Of course!

A raising hammer works well for the larger stuff, working down to a bordering hammer as you go smaller; one of mine is a chipping hammer where I've ground a tiny radius on the end - it's not bad, but a bit heavier than the work needs and I really ought to forge something that has a long thin neck (rather than the wedge of the chipping hammer). Nylon mallets wedge-shaped work well for larger stuff too, although they're slower going, but they're particularly nice for working textured metal.

Well, as I'm Mrs Textured Metal it will be a nylon wedge for me then! Thanks, Peter

When I needed a nylon cross pein hammer, I couldn't find one in this country. Are they available here now?

Mass produced I've no idea - I've still got some blanks on my round tuit list though. They're cut & part drilled, I need to finish the eyes & handle them. Still, the Land Rover is nearing completion so I may have time to finish them imminently.

There is a seller on ebay for the hammers : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280930203233?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

or for the stakes and hammers, this guy sells something similar to both: http://www.anticlastictools.co.uk/

there are many about indeed. I got mine from the ebay route ages ago, it is still going strong and really reasonably priced. I like his stuff. It lasts and is economic on the pocket. lol

I have to say that I have one from Palmers and one of Peter's and Peter's is much nicer ;)

Thats what I use and it works well on both smooth and textured. Got daughters boyfriend to make a sinisoidal (suicidal stake), bought a long hole punch and heated and bent it, it was on this forum, make one for under a tenner and it works - yippee

Well, as I'm Mrs Textured Metal it will be a nylon wedge for me then! Thanks, Peter

I'm impressed Pat. Me, I've just made some soldering clips a la Jim Miller and I was a bit proud. Then I read of your suicidal stake...

Hi everyone, just took a look at anticlastic raising and the hammer links. I noticed that anticlastic tools are offering Delrin hammers & the other nylon.
I know that Delrin is the better material but has anyone any experience of using nylon in this instance? Price difference is huge! Also, what's a good size hammer to start with as it would be quite a lot of money to buy a set.

I've not had any experience of nylon but would imagine they're quite soft. Delrin on the other hand is virtually indestructible if used correctly.

If I may add another idea, what about making some wooden mallets for anticlastic raising, I must admit that any of this type of raising I do with steel hammers, but I have made my own wooden mallets for other jobs by using old beech chair legs and filing them to shape.

I was watching the Andrew Berry video and noticed he used a steel hammer too. I just happen to have a beautiful creasing hammer - an expensive gift from the OH a few years back and still virginal...
