This time it was an 1860 pair of quite hideous sugar tongs that got the chop.

Bowls of the tongs cut off flattened out hammered for texture and bezel set with a pair of labradorite cabs.

They're beautiful - well done! I do like hearing about your 'recycling' - very imaginative :)

Thanks Louisella, there are two rings on my bench waiting to have a stone set on each of them, a nice bit of sheet and the ugly bits, all rococo and florid, will, I think be melted down. I did in fact make them into earrings too but they are really heavy and just not my thing.

I am sure they would look very becoming on you!

Lovely bit of magic on those sugar tongs - my pickle forks still look like pickle forks! Speaking of which, did you enjoy your last lot? lol

Hmmmm well they were alright Wallace but for some reason they left the roots on, which was kind of well unusual to say the least.

Am I right in thinking it was you who one some cake?

Ah yes I see now it was you :0)

Not sure that even I could carry these off, I would end up looking like Hinge and or Brackett, plus they weigh a half ounce each.

they might look quite nice as rings perhaps? I like the labrorodite earrings.

The pattern on them's lovely but yes, can see how they may be a bit top heavy as earrings. Perhaps a brooch?

couldn't you break them down further - there is a nice bit of space there for a littlle gemstone to go in......... damn, I am the one who sets the little gemstones!

can just see an opal or two there Cornelius

speaking of winning, hope your goodie bag is a good one. Will be sending you some little flints soon, just need to get to the post office..... maybe I can do that in the morning before I get to the office. lol

I thought about rings Medusa but they are just 50mm so just a tad on the small side for a ring. I think I could break them down further, the point at which the large scaloppy thing ends would be a suitable place, but on the other hand I think I am getting one of those little reversible ingot moulds for my birthday and it would be shame if I had nothing to pour into it :0)

As to the goody bag I am quite looking forward to seeing what is in it, there might be a little gold ingot who knows :P

Love the earrings - you'd never think they used to be spoons if you didn't know it!

Thanks Lauren,

well as suggested by Wallace I have cut down the rather ungainly lumps and made a pair of post type earrings, which work much better.

... and finally using the little space that as Wallace said was ripe for a stone (though not one of my opals, they are MINE) a not quite exact matched pair of flush set chrome diopsides. Might need to change out the suspension rings as they look a bit clunky, chop them off and drill maybe.

deeeelllllliiiisssssshhhhhhhhhh

you are so clever ;o) That green is a great colour with the silver too. Slightly disheartened that not one appearance of an opal was made.... you could have taunted with a little gem next to it! lololol

You can now feel you have done the recyling business a great justice and made more that you initially intended. Lush!

can you not saw down the loops a little and then fold them over each other for some stability? If you teased the ends a little with a flame to get a small balling up, it would compliment the pattern really well. But you know what you are doing....... that is just me! Did I say they are lush??? lol

I had a meeting where people brought their own lunch, which included bringing some forks for some. One of those forks (albeit a stainless steel version) had exactly the same pattern............. It was hard to explain why I was chuckling

They are lovely Kwant

Being a bit of a cutlery expert (I managed a cutlery department called Arthur Price of England), I can tell you that the pattern is called kings, and it was a parish pattern, meaning that it originated in the early 1800's in Sheffield. It was only allowed to be made in Sheffield until the mid 1900's.

Just wondering how bad it is that I can still remember all of that when I left the company 5 yrs ago #-o

Great extra info Laura thank you, I had no idea it was called Kings pattern, and have included that info in my descriptions. Interestingly the piece I chopped up was marked leopard head, London, Victoria head, duty (abolished in 1890) and date letter e for 1860, makers mark I could not identify but looked like a fancy lower case e f into a heart.

No problem Kwant, glad my head full of useless cutlery info can help :)

I've been working with silver-plated spoons for a little while as they are so much cheaper than the sterling silver. This is one I've just finished that has taken me ages!! :)

How did you set those stones? are the supported at the back ?

Julian

Kwant

The silver is quite thick 2mm so I drilled through smaller than the stone, then cut a seat with a stone setting burr, undercut the edges then rubbed them down to fix the stones in.
