Hello,

Happy Christmas to you all.

I live in France and have been making silver jewellery as a hobby.

I have been seaching for a company that could laser cutting some of my ideas in 6- 9mm thick sheets.

Is this possible at all? Does anyone know any of such company?

Thank you in advance

Myl

Hello Myl,

You need to contact Alan Hadley at Geti Titanium. If he can do what you want he's an ace http://www.geti.cc/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=14&Itemid=211. By the way Kwant lives in France too. Regards, Dennis.

If indeed Alan cannot do it, and I thought he was more on the laser engraving side, I seem to remember one of our members used the services of a water jet cutting company. I did a quick search through previous posts but was unable to find who it was, though on doing a quick Google search there appear to be many companies who offer such a thing relative to the jewellery market. Anyways it is something to think on.

Thinking about it later, a third alternative is to approach an etching company, to produce what you want with deep etching. I have seen rows of small figures done like that but sadly don't have a name. If you are stuck, let me know and I can find it in early January. Dennis.

I've used both etching and laser cutting. Both are good. For etching I use Chempix and for lazering I use L4laser. I think lazering works out cheaper as you don't need to have tools made.

would a laser be able to cut through 6-9mm? I don't think Geti's could.

seems quite thick to me.

Yes, I'm not sure about that either. It may need to be water-jetted. I'm also not sure that etching would work out very economical either as you'd lose so much silver in the process. The way it works is that the etching lines of the pattern need to be the same thickness as the metal.

Naw, no one has brought up the thickness of the sheet until now. It must have been the effect of the Christmas sherry. My bet is that we have a case of a missing decimal point. Something I thought I specialised in.

Cooksons go upto 4.0mm and Argex to 6.0. My guess is our Myl means 0.6-0.9mm sheet, or she had best take a chisel chisel to it.
