Hi,

I am fancying adding some Maille work to my jewellery ranges and would like to just ask what sizes and thickness of jump rings you would recommend to use, i am looking to make bracelets and necklaces approx inch wide. Help is greatly appreciated.

The gauge of wire and ID of rings depends entirely on the weave you want to try.

There are some great resources to try, including

www.cgmaille.com
www.mailleartisans.org

A good starting point for a flat wide weave would be Euro 4-1, which is pretty forgiving in terms of aspect ratio (the relationship between gauge and inner diameter), but rings made from 1mm wire with a 3.5mm ID would be a good starting point. These can be used for dozens of other weaves as well, including the basic byzantine chain that most people start out with.
