When I visit IJL at Earls Court in September, I usually make a beeline for Lorenz Edelstein, who specialise in carved and unusual stones. This year I arrived much too late and there was only some carved onyx that I fancied for earrings, shown in my thread http://www.cooksongold.com/forum/show-tell/3431-super-superglue.html and an onyx druzy that I thought would do for a pendant.
I still needed to make a ring, but my London suppliers had nothing in black that would match. Marcia Lanyon did offer some agate druzy, which is a close cousin, but white, so I settled for that. As it seemed fragile for a ring, I have tried to protect it by sinking it in to the setting. To continue the theme I coloured the ring with Platinol, and as I was slightly uncertain of the size, the shank can be adjusted by opening or pinching the hairpin bends.
Druzy. A gemstone lined with a crust of projecting crystals. Other spellings: Druzi Drusi, Drusy. Dennis.
