Whilst being awful and I am deeply sorry for his family it's not really a surprise whatsoever and he will have known the risks as most people do with venturing into countries like that!
I mean, have you seen what the Kenyan miners do to the people they 'employ'? Rape, machete attacks, beatings... the list goes on!
Where there's oil or diamonds / precious stones there is always terrible atrocities going on, most are unreported!
