Our forum rules and etiquette is all pretty standard, we don't ask for much, however we do insist on the following:

1. Please refrain from using bad language. Always keep it clean, remember if it's not appropriate for children, then don't write it.

2. Spamming is forbidden. This also includes unauthorised advertising. Live links can be used after 15 posts only.

3. All new members will be moderated by myself before posts can be made. This may take up to 2 working days, however in the majority of occassions just a couple of hours.

4. Treat others as you want to be treated, with particular reference to intimidating behaviour which will not be tolerated for the good of the forum.

5. Signatures are limited to a small font and will be edited by mods and admin if they take up too much space (maximum 4 links).

6. Try to stay on topic.. (if the thread is about cards then keep the thread about cards, start a new thread for new topics)

7. No personal attacks, keep debates about opinions only...

8. Creation of duplicate membership accounts is frequently associated with spamming, bullying or other negative behaviour and will be addressed if it arises.

How we deal with rule breaks:
We reserve the right to ban any forum members who we believe to be breaking the rules. Also please note that these forum rules are not exhaustible, and may be added to at any given time.

If you feel this limits the site and/or your experience then please email/private message me.

Have fun!!!:)

Can we have some clarification on what topics we can and can't discuss please?

I noticed that Bens thread about the Erotica 2009 exhibition had disappeared.
But, even though it was in the 'Off Topic' category, it does have major connections to the jewellery trade, so this does raise some concerns as to what we can and can't discuss.

Erotic jewellery is a major jewellery market - body piercings in particular. My company doesn't produce directly for this market but I can imagine (and can tell from some of the people I see who buy our rings) that there is a connection.

As more and more designers create pieces for high end gay and lesbian jewellery (another significant market and also connected to erotica jewellery), will this be another area that we will not be able to discuss?

As an adult, I don't shy away from adult themes - I don't have to take part in them or agree with them but, at the same time, I don't hide from them.

I wouldn't like to see the forum taken over by 'porn merchants and pill pushers' obviously some restraint is going to be needed, but without these extra guidelines we will end up with a forum that is filled with 'sugar' and no 'spice' to balance it out.

Can anyone see where I'm coming from or am I in the wilderness on this?

Geti - I discussed this with Ben before deleting and he was in full agreement that it could cause offence to some more sensitive souls. In fact, once he had posted it he thought he probably shouldn't have.

Also, we need to remember that this is a public board that anyone can read - including children, customers, friends etc.

I thought long and hard before the deletion but, on balance, I stand by the decision.

I hope that helps to clarify the issue.

Just as a comment on the above, I don't have any issues with discussing any kind of jewellery, intimate, BM or whatever, but I'm not convinced the thread in question was meant as that type of discussion was it?

I think if it had been kept on-topic, and was about the jewellery, it would have been a different matter!

I agree the thread about the exhibition wasn't relevant to the forum that isn't what I was getting at really, but it still does raise the question as to what we can and can't talk about - erotic, gay and lesbian jewellery is big business - do we need to tread on eggshells in these areas?

I took it as a light hearted comment and it didn't bother me but it would have done if it had escalated any further.

I think that as long as the content of the thread is relevant to jewellery and jewellery making then it would be okay. As you say, these are valid and growing markets - perhaps such a thread could be highlighted as being not for delicate minds.

I must add here that this is my personal opinion. As yet, I don't have the official Cookson's view and, of course, Nic isn't around to comment at present because she's been at IJL.

We'll put this question to the Cookson team and come back with the 'official' position as soon as.

I would say this rule is pretty clear...and upon reflection a link something of an "unsuitable for minors nature" would also apply. e.g The Erotica show quite clearly displays and 18 on it's front page but other sites containing Adult info would also be included.

No more than any other area of the forum, for example a stylised erotic nude is very different from a "graphic" image. You have two quite broad minded moderators and (should you feel we've overstepped the moderation mark) a team of admin to appeal to...
As far as the Gay and Lesbian market goes I don't feel it's any different to any other specialist market. Plus we have a very easy to use PM system so anything you may feel is pushing the boundaries can be taken "off board".
For anyone who has been moderated you will normally receive a PM explaining why it's been done (sometimes e.g. when removing duplicate posts or moving to threads to more appropriate areas we don't send a PM but that's because we're volunteers and we want time to enjoy the boards too ;))

Maybe an Adult nature thread is possible but (as threads tend to wander here) I don't think it would work. I think the easiest way is for folks to use their own sense of judgement and if it misses the mark, other members find it offensive, or cooksons find it inappropriate then it would be modded and an explanation would be given.

Like I said their are always PM's OR even specialist erotica forums (in which case the target audience is there too!)

Hi all,
Thanks Nic, I couldn't have clarified this any better myself. From an official point of view I stand by Nicola's response to the word.

Thanks for that.

You could always start a private forum that members need to request access to, this stops any concerns about children reading what adults would or might deem inappropriate. People can see the forum name and put a description in saying access to this forum is by request and must be relevant to that person's field or specialty with jewelery. Just a thought, I had one on my photography website I took over running from 2007 until 2016. It worked well, didn't get any complaints and that was with vBulletin Forum as well.

Re Rule 2 - "Spamming is forbidden" - yes, that includes in private messages and will result in an automatic ban. I'll also be looking for duplicate accounts, which will also be banned.

I find myself somewhat puzzled by this type of post. Not that the poster will be explaining their actions in due course.
