When deciding which texture band to fit the setting onto blue tac is your friend ;)
It's also great for showing clients roughly what the stone will look like
blue tac and rubies the perfect combo, lol

Probably best to solder for the final deliverable though :D

I use blutak for handling stones rather than the more traditional wax; it's also handy for holding small objects (domes, for example) while sanding and so on.

Blu-Tack's my friend too. The beeswax mixed with powdered charcoal beloved of setters is slightly more sticky, but leaves a mess on stones and fingers. Well at least on mine, maybe because I get hot when I'm doing something difficult. An added bonus is that you can spell it in at least three different ways.

So it's like Poe-Tah-Toe and Po-tay-toh then ;)

What is "blue tac" and how do you use it?

Hi Don - it's the adhesive putty-like stuff you stick posters to walls with; can't for the life of me think of the Stateside name for it right now.

Wikipedia is your friend too ;-) -

"Similar products from other manufacturers include "Tack-it" by Faber-Castell,"Buddies" (coloured pink), "Pritt-Tack", "Poster Putty", "Tac 'N Stick", "Ticky Tack", "Sticky Tack" and "White Tack" by German company UHU

In the USA, a similar, competing product in an orange colour is marketed under the brand "Elmer's Tack." "

Does that help?

Given my tolerance of the iPod keyboard, I was doing well to type that much :D
