just curious what's more important the act of making the jewellery( i.e. the skill,) ?

Being creative and expressing yourself.?

Is it because its sparkly?

Does it reflect your environment ?

What does your jewellery say about you?

Tell us all. All the best myke. The one who likes the deep stuff!!!!!!!

Mine says "your a beginner but you are learning :P"

For me its the chance to be a little creative again, to achieve making something, and hopefully something pleasing to the eye, its about exploring my imagination, and hopefully making people smile. If someone buys something i have made (as yet i havent shown anyone any jewellery, but i have sold tiaras and candles etc) then i feel so chuffed with myself, i actually feel like i am worth something for a little while.

good morning sorry I did not reply last night some friends called in to say hi.So what does my jewellery say about me. Jason John I suppose you have got some of me right. I,v always had a love hate relationship with making jewellery. I like things to happen quickly.I look at everyone's work on the forum and I think I would not have the patients for that.

I am seldom happy with what i do.I am always searching for some thing that excites me.
It says I am an old hippy that has never grown up.If I was to put a diamond into my work I would hide it so you would have really search to find it,or hide it all together.I think that's enough rambling for now all best myke

I think if you look at anyones work it says heaps about their personality and JasonJohn is absolutely spot on. Personally I am not keen on bright, sparkly jewellery so I hope my work reflects this. Having the freedom to be creative and hands on is just the best job and to be able to express in my work the beautiful world around me is a privilege I dont take lightly. Driven is the word and just a bit to serious sometimes. *-:)

Spot on again Jason, experimenting is the best part because you find out what you want to specialise in.

I agree about the experimenting bit. I've been making jewellery as a hobby for six years now and I find there's some things I tend to steer clear of - stone setting is one, although I would like to be better at it. I'd like to think my stuff reflected my personality - I make quite bold things, not keen on delicate things, and I've used things like marbles, plectrums, toothbrushes and toy farm animals. It's not everyone's taste, but I enjoy making it - even if it can also be hugely frustraing at times #-o

For me it's the making. I've spent the last few years (well, this last year since I graduated I've not been doing much. Curse you jobs market!) doing an academic degree and having no real outlet for my occasional bursts of creativity. Now I'm doing something practical, and I get shineys out of it too!

I'm not very good at freeform art, never have been, so my work tends to be quite structured. Probably why I'm so keen on chainmaille. It's lovely and logical!

The most important part of jewellery making for me is the journey it takes you on....
It's the one career which I know will keep stretching me, as a bonus it's also one of the few jobs
where my creations might be treasured when I'm gone...
The thought that a wedding ring I make, may be passed on through a family is quite humbling :">

I love to make big, bold colourful jewellery. It's what I love to wear too. What does this say about me? Dunno really as I am not big and bold, at least not on the outside.

Hi Cheeky Lemur - Cowardly Lion syndrome, that is. Big, bold and brave just when needed!

And welcome to the forum

I don't know what my jewellery says about me but I know what it means to me - the creative outlet I've been needing for years!
It started off as a bit of a splurge but I'm now trying to be more patient and think about things more before I dive in.

I'm not so sure that the finished items I make say as much about me as the process I go through when making them does.
Well, I guess they probably do, I'm just not so aware of it.
I do often find I sit down to make something but I go off on a tangent and end up making something completely different. These are the beads that are the best!

For me, it's the making too but it's also a journey as my stuff has changed hugely since I started 5 years ago. I feel that it's what I was born to do and my only regret is that I didn't start doing it years ago.

I hope it says I love creating and reflects my loves, nature, colour, textiles but unconventional and unique....

I have absolutely no idea what my jewellery must say about me - there are so many styles and techniques that I enjoy and I constantly have a head full of ideas and not enough time to make them - that I seem to cover a wide range of styles. Perhaps that's what it says - "she has ants in her pants".

I think I most enjoy working with pure metal - applying heat and pressure to make it into something else. I just made a copper and silver pendant (can't link directly to it, but I blogged about it on 10th August if you want to look) and that started life as some copper electrical wire on a wooden spool, bound in several layers of cotton threads and found in my grandfather's old tool box. He made things himself and was very talented and he'd get a real kick out of me taking some of his old junk and seeing the beauty in it and making something new. If I'm lucky, someone the other side of the world will end up wearing it. That's an incredible thrill to me - I just love the process of making things - if someone then gets to wear it, that's a fantastic bonus.

I haven't been doing the jewellery long enough to have a style, just now I'm working on the move to Cornwall but when we get settled I'm sure my creative flair will shine through and I'll be making lots and lots of nice pieces for the Mrs to either wear or put on the website for sale.

Hey honey, you're worth loads whether you can make jewellery or not. Please remember that. The sense of achievement is fab though. Keep going, it'll be a brilliant way to let yourself shine through and rediscover who you are, we all need that after years of grind/domesticity/kids/moaning OH's etc....
