Hi,

After a bit of research on here, I see that many people like micromesh for polishing. Please can you tell me where you get it from and what you buy? I had a quick look here Sylmasta Ltd Micro-Mesh Abrasives (http://www.sylmasta.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Micro_Mesh_Abrasives_1.html) and they have sticks, liquid, pads etc. and I'm not sure what to get!

Thanks,

Bob

I use these:

MICRO MESH / MICROMESH POLISHING KIT 9 SHEETS 6" X 4" on eBay (end time 17-Mar-10 21:28:09 GMT) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MICRO-MESH-MICROMESH-POLISHING-KIT-9-SHEETS-6-X-4_W0QQitemZ170458335032QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Defau ltDomain_3?hash=item27b01bc738#ht_563wt_1165)

Nice seller, and very good value. I prefer the sheets to the pads. The sticks are useful too, but it's easy enough to wrap your own.

I've just bought this pack from the above seller and can highly recommend it.

are these cloths? or is it sandpaper?

They're an abrasive (like wet and dry paper) but on a fabric rather than paper backing, so more flexible, very easy to rinse, and go to much finer grades.

do they last? or wear down as quickly as sand paper?

Much more durable than wet and dry.

Hello
Does anyone know the name of the ebay seller that sells the micromesh? Tried the link but is no longer there.
Many thanks in advance!

Micromesh is used in industry (aeronautics) for polishing perspex canopies, it is an abrasive crystal bonded to a fabric, the bonding aent is slightly rubberised and the crystals rock, therefore the cloth can be cleaned with water or there is a polishing fluid in the kit to use, there are two types, cushioned (MX) and non cushioned, the non cushioned goes to 12000 grit I think it is one tenth of one thou, and will polish scratches from aircraft canopies, the cushioned stuff is not so good, the cloth is very resilient and will last a fare while, the kits are quite good but by the roll is better, sorry to say post RAF service have'nt a scooby where to get it from by te roll but highly recomend it, especially for platignum.
