View Full Version : I'm new to the forum
Hello Again :)
I thought it would be a good idea to post some pics of stuff I have done to kind of introduce myself a bit more - i plan on hanging around here now :)
Been metalsmithing about 2 years probably now but seriously for just over a year.
These are nothing too fancy - but christmas presents etc

Hi Lucy (and welcome from me too)
I've just had a wander round your photostream - some very nice stuff there indeed! Your studio looks cool too - I can see why you're missing it :)
Thanks guys :)
I make some really cool stuff at work - but then again I do have weeks to make it rather than hours :( I think when I manage to get back to my studio and I am going to get some serious hours in there (I put my job on temporary hold for a while).
I am a complete toolaholic mizgeorge! I need serious help!

Hi Lucy,
Some lovely pieces there and I've got some serious tool envy happening here! Oh, to have access to those Rio Grande tools, that would be my dream - probably most of the forumites too!

I'm mostly picking through the workshop pics at the moment... A couple of organising ideas I'm going to pinch, I think - like the use of the pegboard, for example.
There's some nice pieces there too - and I'm very envious of your course at New Approach!
Thank you Indigo, its in my basement (most US houses seem to have them - its so cool!)
I am a little spoilt when it comes to tools ;) I think my hubby is rather proud to have a wife that likes tools more than shoes so he does indulge me!

Looks even more messy from this angle! on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28855176@N04/4183290576/in/photostream/)
Anyway - here is a link to studio pics (I am just a hobbyist right now but when the time comes for a real business at least I won't have to lay out any money for tools :)

Ummm, I was just looking at that pegboard for my 'workshop' too.
The pics I posted a moment ago are of it in its latest state - as you can see I think i enjoy re-organising my workshop more than making jewelry sometimes!
Thank you for the compliments though! The pegboard is great - they have all sorts of holders that you can just slot in place and hold anything.
Rio Grande is awsome, but so is Otto Frei and we have a place in NY called Zaks tools that you can pretty much pick up anything from (and of course save on postage!) That is one great thing about the US - so many tools suppliers! oh I almost forgot to mention GRS tools!
PSbond - have you heard of New Approach? it was awsome, the best time I ever had - so much fun and so much information. I think there are some cool pics on flickr of the school.
PS-Bond - I notice you do mokume! awsome - and I have complete stake envy - I really want to try and learn some serious forming this year - I think thats an area I really need to learn! God if you were in sheffield I would be visiting your studio now!
I took an awsome class last year with this guy Chris Ploof Studio (http://www.chrisploof.com) and completely fell in love with mokume :) I got a hydraulic press for my birthday so hope to start making it when I get back to my studio (I haven't even seen the press yet!)

Yeah, I know of Blaine Lewis - I learned flush setting with his DVD.
The stakes in my photos aren't mine, they belong to West Dean College - although I'm gradually catching up...
So which press is it? A Bonney Doon? One of Kevin Potter's? I built an 8 ton press for some bits I was working on, but there are days where a gutsier model appeals. The downside is that then I'd have to do less hammering.

Been browsing your photostream Lucy and like most am thoroughly jealous of your studio. Puts my work area (half of the dining table) to shame. Gorgeous jewellery too!

Lucy I'm loving your studio it's amazingly well organised & I'm sure a complete pleasure to work in!
Those earrings are gorgeous lucky, lucky friend :Y:
Nic xx
Thanks Nic! She totally deserves them though - best friend you could ask for!
The studio is a pleasure to work in, but I would love a window :( Going to be moving house soon though, so the chance to get a complete new workshop is very exciting! I do feel very lucky every time I go in there Gemma :)
Blaine is an awsome guy PS - so funny, and nothing at all like on his dvd's. I'd deffinately recommend watching the princess setting one too if you can. I have no steaks at all - after a kiln (for mokume) they will be the next purchase. I got a 20 ton Kevin Potter press - it looks lovely, but I am waiting to go back to NY to play with it.
Hammering is so much fun anyway :) and good for the old arm muscles! reminds me of a couple other things I need to get - a BFH and a good anvil for hammering on.

Is a BFH a "Best Friend Here?" if so there's going to be a long, long queue
(we all get earrings right??)
Nic xx
he he!
BFH = Big ******* Hammer :) :) :) - its a special kind of hammer!
I love making jewelry for my friends though - and its nice that they appreciate it!

OMG i have just looked through your complete photo set, and i have died and gone to heaven a million and one times, for not only that studio to die for but the quality of your work. I now miss my pathetic attempts at jewellery making even more and long to be able to get everything back out again to practise.:Y:<3<3:dancing::worthy:

Su - your jewellery was fabulous (just like you!)

Thank you so much Su! I really appreciate the compliment! Although I will say making cool stuff is so much easier with the right tools - and I am spoilt on that front.:Y:
