My parcel just arrived with my starter bits and bobs and I've managed to solder two pieces of silver together. Woo hoo!

Soaked it in pickle and it's come up clean - but white (especially filigree wire) - can't seem to get this back with fine sandpaper pads, do I need a wire brush?

Do you have some sort of rotary tool to polish it? All you need is a set of radial discs to get it back to shiny again.

Many thanks, Carole - is this the kind of thing which will do the job?

That's true George. Why, though, can't you get just the brushes without the mandrels?

The quickest way to restore the silver appearance after pickling is to use a jeweller's brass brush, wetted and loaded with detergent. It splashes your walls a bit but you will be amazed at the result and it conserves the surface detail. Dennis.

Drives me potty :) I have dozens of pretty much unused yellow and blue, and constantly run out of green!

Hi there

I am also just starting out making silver Jewellery (despite working in brass for many years) and I have found the other rubber abrasives to be very good too. particularly the flying saucer shaped ones. they do get pretty hot though!
