err.... coming up with a name is harder than it looks I had good intentions but this is all I could muster.

How about
L M Jewellery
Jewellery by LM
Bitton Jewellery
B&B Designs (as in Bristol & Bath)

Sorry my creativity has let me (and you) down... again!

b+b doesn't sound to bad! unless peeps think it's for bed and breakfast... mind you that would bring in a few new lookers! I shall put it on my list :Y:

What sort of designs will you be selling?
Might help formulate a name :)

well I flit to be truthful, from funky to 'sweet'. I have a name for my cards and stuff but not sure I want to do the jewellery on that name. My name is to compilcated for most people, I always have to spell it so that's out.

What about a word that gives you some design room then...
Something like "Eclectic Designs"or similar?

Most jewellers use their own name as it sounds more professional. Maybe you could shorten your name slightly.

lynnm
23-02-2010, 10:24 PM
it's a real no no... noone can say it let alone spell it

Di Sandland

this is exactly why I suggested Lynn M. Your name, but sayable

lynnm
24-02-2010, 06:53 AM
don't you think Lynn is a bit ... well boring!

Di Sandland
24-02-2010, 07:24 AM
not if it becomes associated with beautiful jewellery!

I tell you what - I wish I had stuck to my own name (which, by the way, I hate). I think using your own name - as in Carole Allen, for instance - has far more cachet. It also means you can grow creatively without the problem of moving away from what your name suggests. I'm pagan and, initially, so was everything I made. I'm still pagan but creatively I've moved on to something quite different. Buggered now!

What is your real name? I'm sure it can't be that bad! It would probably make more impact than Carole Allen.

lynnm

yes Di what's your's ... if you tell I will to :-D did toy with using my second name but it is quite twee which isn't me at all.

no, not really but can't you play with it a bit? I'm thinking in terms of Mac, Mack etc etc

I think it's fine as a name. It's your name. It says that your jewellery is hand made by you and not by someone in a sweatshop somewhere. If you used a made up name I for one wouldn't have the confidence to buy from you.

What does sound like jewellery? Unless your name happens to be Cartier, Tiffany, Garrard of course.

I also like real names being used, and may well change to using mine in the future - when I started selling I was about to get married, so names were a bit up in the air, but I feel far more confident buying from someone with a name than a random phrase.

I'm certainly changing to my own name soon too - there is only one Di Sandland and she doesn't work in a sweat shop on the Indian sub-continent somewhere.

Your name is fine. Seems easy to pronounce to me (unless I'm pronouncing it wrong- lol!)
Its memorable like mine :)
I'm not changing mine now I'm married because everyone seem to remember Buckle. I have more of a problem with people spelling Alexandra wrong.

I think McElwee Jewellery has quite a ring to it. McJewEllerwee.
Sorry my minds gone wonky now :snow:

Hi Lynn, why not just Mc? It could even serve as a logo then too.

Well I think I have decided on one, my middle name and maiden name, I did think about using my grandmothers name but it sounds a little pretentious I think so here we go Marie Miller or Rose LaPierre

Rustic Charm

Marie Miller is more alliterative so sticks in the mind better
The double M has great logo possibilites too ;)

~Thanks... but with the jewellery bit added on?

That makes it even more important that the first part sticks in the mind :)

Why not just use your actual maiden name? I presume it's Lynn Miller - which sounds just fine - and means that people will actually be calling you by your correct name - it can be very confusing having a completely different name to the one you trade under. It's usually easiest to keep things as simple as possible.

I saw a site called LaPierre, I think I'd be expecting costume jewellery. I don't know if that fits your style as I've not seen anything you've made Actually, I thought you said to start with that you'd only just begun making jewellery, so I didn't realise you were already selling.
