What part of the UK are you thinking of and what sort of jewellery are you wanting to make? I do classes in Cornwall if that's any help.

Hi guys

I´m a tattoo artist and live in Norway, website - arctictattoo.com and have been doing this for 17 years. I have thought about making jewellery for years and now finally have my son working for me, so i can take a bit of a step back. And learn something new!
As i have to travel down from the top of the world, anywhere in the UK is good for me :-)

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil - a tattoo artist, wow, you'd be my son's instant hero. He's halfway through a major work of art on his back based on the words take these broken wings and learn to fly again. Work has currently had to stop until more funds become available ;) From my point of view - I made him perfect, what does he want to gild the bloody lily for!

Oh - and :welcome:

Hi Phil - :~:. You won't be short of inspiration for your designs will you!! I guess you are into Celtic inspired knotwork and the like!

Wow! You're up in Tromsø :) Doesn't get much Northier than that!!! I have a customer who spends a lot of his on-shore time up there. And I once visited while we were on a grand tour of the Norwegian relations! All I remember is the cold and the skiing!

You've done some amazing work - love the Brando.

What sort of thing are you interested in learning? I think for most things, you could do a lot worse than the Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery or West Dean College - though I'm sure there'll be plenty of other recommendations.

And welcome from me too.

Hi and welcome!!

A tattoo artist - great to meet you. I'm in one of my "thinking" phases for the next piece of tattoo artwork I want to get done.

Thanks for the great welcome.

i´m really interested in making rings, silver and gold, maybe inspired from tattoo imagery, but i would want slightly longer than weekend courses as i have to travel so far :-)

How about Birmingham schoolofjewellery.com (http://www.schoolofjewellery.com/) - they have various length courses, and can also offer 1 to 1 specialist training I believe.

Or West Dean West Dean Homepage (http://www.westdean.org.uk/)

School of Jewllery is where i trained they have lots of part time courses they teach you how to solder properly, stone setting, enamel oooh the list goes on good luck and with the finesse you must have as a tattoo artist i am sure you will make great jeweller xx

I can recommend both West Dean and Birmingham Jewellery School. Another place is John Cass which has a good reputation. Mid Cornwall Jewellery School is good and the person who runs it is lovely (Lisa Cain) but there is one tutor who I would always avoid (I think we've discussed this before).

Looks like plenty of good advice there, I'd also add InTheStudio (http://www.inthestudio.co.uk/) lovely place to study and they do residential.

It is more intriguing as to how a non-Norwegian ended up in Norway doing tattoo work, but it's a free world out there.

I have had a good weekend's worth of training in Worcestershire - Bringsty
Home Page (http://www.silversmithingcourses.co.uk/)

There are courses just up the road from me - Jewellery making classes, training and workshops including silversmithing and precious metal clay. (http://www.mcsj.co.uk/) - with perhaps more of an emphasis on precious metal clay.

Perhaps one of the first things to do is for you ponder what sorts of things you might want to make, as a course on bead necklace making may or may not fit the bill for you.
