You know, I'm really pleased to have won a mystery prize; I rarely win anything. But I've been evaluating my input and, really, when it comes to usefulness, well, its not up to much. Yeah, I'm good at enthusing folk and giving virtual hugs but advice nope, because I am very much a newbie when it comes to making real jewellery.

There are a few folk on here who give real good 'value for money' in terms of their input. Ask a question and they'll give you the answer; ask for an honest opinion and you'll get constructive criticism. I'm thinking in terms of the Peters and the Georges of this world.

Okay, so George has become a mate and perhaps I'm biased... but I don't think so.

What am I saying? Not sure but probably something about credit where its due.

So, from me to the technique sharers and enablers - Thankyou!

Totally agree with you Di, but I think this competition was just random, anyone who posted absolutely anything was in with a chance.

Peter and George are invaluable though aswell as many others. :Y:

I know Jay but I just wanted to say thank you.

Too right, they are stars and I myself have personally had loads of advice from the pair of them in the past. Maybe cookies should send them each a top of the range Durston. :Y:

Wouldn't mind one of those myself.

PMSL - and anyway, you've already asked for a handsome man to be peeled and brought to your room. Can't have both mate!

Hi Di, as Jason said, this competition was just about chance. I randomly selected 20 posts from over 23,000 posts. If it was about valued contribution I'm sure they would have received a prize! :)

This forum has been the best thing to happen for me in a very long time and has filled a huge gap in so many ways - bringing friends from all round the country to my desktop and giving me a chance to talk 'shop' to people who also like nothing more than to admire each other's hammers!!:D You are all the best!! Big hugs to you all!![[]]

Got a couple of stones - not sure what to do with them as I have no setting skills - but we'll see.

Beach ball too - bouncy!

Well - mine arrived this morning :ta:Cooksons . I already have the bench peg installed as my old one was more holes than wood!!:Y: I too have the beachball and 2 tiny 3mm topaz stones... Did anyone get the 6 semi precious stones (topaz, garnets or pearls) at the end of the list??

I had already decided that I was going to try to do some stone setting in the lull after Christmas and so I ordered the Cogswell book (that has been recommended on the forum) on Wednesday evening ...I don't think I'll manage to do anything as small as 3mm though!! The book hasn't come yet - but I thought I'd give you the link to it as I think I got a total bargain!!! About £3 cheaper than elsewhere and freepost too! Search : aphrohead.com (http://aphrohead.com/Search.aspx?sw=creative+stonesetting&st=All)

I have found a site on ebay that does cabs (and stones) and so I am buying a few bits and bobs from there...nothing less than 5mm though!!...so that I can have a play. And the Cooksons freepost has come just in time for me to add some bezel strip and silver sheet...must remember to order before Sunday evening!

I hope the book link can be of use to someone!!:Y:

I got the topaz, garnets or pearls bag. I'm assuming the red are garnets, pale blue are topaz but the pale purple look like amethyst to me (I don't think they're pearls!)
I'm not fussed though- any free goodies are wonderful!!

Thank you Cooksons for my goodie bag - I got everything on the list including the stones and these included 2 pearls as well. The saw blades will come in handy as I was down to my last couple, so great timing.

The spare wooden peg for the bench-peg doesn't fit mine, so if anyone wants it I'll happily post it onto them - just PM me if you are interested.

Can I post this? I'm not selling just passing on a spare bit of kit...

The bench peg is very handy (with the anvil attachment of course!)! It was one of the last things I bought when setting up my workshop, and I literally couldn't make any jewellery until it arrived! One day I'm going to make my own jewellers benches... I can't wait!!

Any of you not set stones before and are going to give it a go? Or anyone designing jewellery around their new stones? Very exciting! Mum and dad have just bought me a couple of loose stones from an antique shop, can't wait to see them and design something around them!

The Dragon

My parcel was attempted to be delivered on Wednesday, but I was out all day, so I arranged for re-delivery on Friday. So I have my goodies now - I thanked Cooksons privately, but I'd like to thank them publicly too here - thank you - it was lovely to get a surprise like that. I couldn't get on here over the weekend to post before now.

Everything in it will be put to good use. I have an improvised bench peg, so I'll easily be able to modify this one to fit in my clamp - one was on my Christmas list anyway. Garnets are my birthstone, so I'll make myself something with those - I already have an idea.

So, thank you Cooksons.

I got a suprise box from CG the other day and had no idea why - only just logged on to this forum and found this thread which explains everything! Thanks for making a dull day rather pleasant in the end.

Yes I did that :D and had an order come here well before the competition winners were announced. I have emailed Cookson's and queried the address so will have to wait and see what happens.
