Also did this ring today - just took a quick picture but if I wanted to set stones in the holes drilled, think it's called invisible set (IIRC) how do I go about doing that?

Hi Mila,

I presume you are talking about flush setting faceted stones. You need to drill guide holes in the ring no bigger than 1mm wide, then open the hole up a little with a bud burr then finally a setting bur which matches the size of the stone.

So for instance if you are planning to put 3mm gems in, use a 3mm setting burr. Take into consideration that you need to set in metal that is deeper than the stones depth aswell, so if the stone is 3mm across and 2mm deep you will need atleast 2.5mm thick silver.

That is only the beginning, then you need to learn how to actually flush set the stones once sat in their seat.

Hope this helps.

Ah I get it - thank you :) My next technical milestone is setting - I'll have to research some good books to get me started.

Really nice work. I wonder why everyone loves hearts - they're always a best seller.

I'm not sure, but two of my first sales were heart pieces. It was one of the first shapes I started with when I got back into this and they seem to have developed from there - I don't very often plan things, I have a few rough sketchs of things, normally in biro on a scrappy bit of paper or back of an envelope lol. I must finish the other things I'm doing - I have 3 pieces on the go at the moment, but we had a powercut for about 4 hours today so I couldn't get much done as I was also supposed to be "working from home" too (proper boring work that is!)

I'm not normally a heart person but they look quite edgy - nice touch. Particularly like the first ring. :Y:

Me neither, Lesley - avoid them like the plague. Mila's are okay tho (well more than okay but you know what I mean)
