Hello everyone :~:
I've been toying with the idea of silversmithing for years now. I'm a beader really but have now decided to stop thinking about it and ordered some silver and tools today!
I live in Southampton and am a maths teacher. I make jewellery in my spare time.
Looking forward to browsing the forum and 'meeting' you all

I think as a general rule and to take some of the heat off me - everybody should greet noobies with the question "what are you wearing?" that way it doesn't make me look so bad - show of hands every one :Y:

By the way do you think that we should now let Geti know that we are all naturist jewellers or do you think that revelation might be a bit too much for him on a sunday night?

I'm assuming you mean companies that use these numbers to con their customers out of money when they ring up to complain about a problem of a company's own making, or to get technical help with a problem, or do you mean another use for them?

Well kinda, I've got a shop, it pays the bills and the mortgage,
but all the spare pennies still goes on tools, metals etc :-D

Welcome Gemma. I don't make a living from jewellery. I just dabble as a hobby. But teaching the kids at school is funding that hobby at the moment.

15 - love to Geti I think. Game on, shall we spread it across several threads - oh I forgot we already do!! :Y:

Gemma

Thanks Nic and Linda for getting back on topic!

Its great to hear that there are loads of beaders on here with varying degrees of dabbling in silver.
I teach kiddies/monsters to pay for my hobby too Linda. What do you teach?

Lindyloo
19-10-2009, 09:48 PM
We make a lot of things with silver plated wire and beads. Today, we made little wire link bracelets, made using my home-made wire jigs. We also do metal work with copper sheet and silver wire. But we can't do anything remotely dangerous, with saw blades, etc, although they do love using hammers.

I do it as an after-school club for 8-11 year olds. It started because I approached the headmistress of my children's school with my idea for the club. And the kids love, love, love it.

Lindyloo
19-10-2009, 10:08 PM
Oh no, nothing like that. I don't think I'd have the patience to sit with the same kids all day long!

I sell my jewellery from my website Katrina Alexander - Home (http://www.katrina-alexander.com) and also from various on line shops and retails shops but it is a very competitive market and so it is non stop marketing!
