View Full Version : Solder Paste in Checked in Luggage on flight

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is right section for this, but I was wondering if anyone knows if one can fly with an unopened solder paste syringe in their checked in luggage?

My aunt is going over to the US and I see that it costs 1/3 of the price there than it does in South Africa and would love her to bring some back but then I wondered if thats a hazardous material...

In most countries you would have to declare it on entry and pay duty any way.

Would the same apply to sheet metal and wire? (brass etc)

When travelling from abroad, your personal allowance is goods worth up to £390 (or up to £270 if you arrive by private plane or boat).
This is in addition to the allowance for tobacco and alcohol.
Anything above this is subject to duty and VAT.
