Hello. Have made a few changes to some silver by removing soldered parts, which has resulted in marks / Firestain and also some scratches along the way. What’s the best Matt finish to hide imperfections? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Well TM19, it rather depends on what you mean by some silver. Some silver what?
The answer can range from having it plated, running a frosting wheel over it, tumbling with abrasive media, or simply applying a decorators abrasive block. Dennis.

There is a problem with trying to hide imperfections so it’s best to try and get a good finish first even if you mean to then matt finish or oxidise. I’ve found that if you matt finish firestain you can still see shadows of it even when matt especially when it starts to tarnish. You can’t hide scratches and you should work down through the grades of wet and dry or micro mesh to remove them. Then you can think about what finish to put on the work

Totally agree with Caroline, I would always finish to one grade before a full mirror finish before putting a matt finish on, not use it to hide imperfections.
