Different gold colour 9ct

Hi all - I have started making the odd small pieces using gold, and I have noticed the colour seems to differ a lot. eg I made something using 9ct gold and the chain I bought looks very pale in comparison. What should I be looking out for in order to match colours. Are there special codes for colours? Does it even matter? :ta:

Hi Theresa,
I don't use gold that often, but when I converted a lapel pin to a necklace last year, I was unable to find a matching 9ct gold chain. I think it is because chains are mostly imported and made to a slightly different formula.
Anyhow, I went ahead and it was not remarked on by the recipient.
However if you are selling, you might pre-empt complaints by advising the customer in advance. Kind regards, Dennis.

Thanks Dennis, actually it isn't a cusom order but something for my Etsy & Folksy shops. Hopefully they will see (or maybe not notice) the colour difference.
