Hello, I need help. Can I ask advice?
I want to make a wedding ring in 22 CT yellow gold. I've only worked with silver before. Will I be able to solder the gold with my butane torch?
What else do I need to know that's different from working silver? Aside from the nerve-wracking value of the metal, that is! I don't seem to be able to find a book to tell me.

Any help or suggestions for reading will be gratefully welcomed.

TIA

You may struggle with a butane torch if it is a small one other wise it is similar to Silver

Thank you. I have a small hand torch, but also a larger plumbers 'camping gaz' type blowtorch which can take a butane/propane mix cartridge. Perhaps I could use this with care?

The Campingaz torch is easily modified with an Ω shaped strip of brass or copper, to partially close the air hole.
This allows you to use a small soft flame to raise the temperature of the gold a little using one hand, making it easier for the minitorch to succeed using the other.

Thanks. That's a great tip.
