Support the disc on a bench peg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/Jewellery-Tools\/Matador-Assorted-Emery-Sticks,-----Pack-of-8,-prcode-973-0901\">emery sticks<\/a> on the edges, working from the coarsest to the finest emery stick until all edges<br>are smooth.<br><br>Repeat for the second disc. These discs are the flower shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7272.jpg\" alt=\"Use a flat file to round off the pointy edges\" class=\"wp-image-24528\" style=\"width:272px;height:363px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 7<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place one of the smaller discs on a steel block and place the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/Jewellery-Tools\/Standard-Centre-Punch-prcode-999-590\">centre punch<\/a> on top. Hit the top of the centre punch with a hammer so that the centre punch creates a dot on the disc. Repeat this<br>process to form a \u2018dotty\u2019 pattern all over the discs, keeping the dots clustered in the middle of the disc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Repeat for the second smallest disc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:29px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7274.jpg\" alt=\"Create a dot on the disc using a centre punch\" class=\"wp-image-24529\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add a small amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/Solders\/Cooksongold-Silver-Solder-Paste-5g-Medium-Syringe-prcode-PAT-002\">medium solder paste<\/a> to the reverse of the smallest dotty disc, just enough to cover the whole area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place the flower shapes on a heatproof block or wire mesh. Place the smallest discs in the middle on top of the larger flower shapes, with the solder in between the shapes and the dotty pattern face up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use a hand blow torch to heat up each flower shape individually until the solder melts and flows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may want to use the hand blow torch to heat the flower shapes underneath. Placing the flower shapes on a wire mesh allows you to direct heat from your blow torch to the underside of the Silver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leave each shape to cool for a minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7283.jpg\" alt=\"Solder small disc to flower\" class=\"wp-image-24530\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quench (cool) each flower shape in water using tweezers. Next, place each shape in a warm pickle solution for 5 minutes or until clean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remove the shapes from the pickle using plastic tweezers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7288.jpg\" alt=\"Quench to cool \" class=\"wp-image-24531\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 10<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take 2 oval jump rings and close the jump rings flush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To close the jump ring, grip it with a pair of snipe nose, flat or chain nose pliers on both sides. Twist one pair of pliers back to close the jump ring flush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7304.jpg\" alt=\"Open jump ring using pliers\" class=\"wp-image-24532\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 11<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add a small amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/Solders\/Cooksongold-Silver-Solder-Paste-5g-Easy-Syringe-prcode-PAT-001\">easy solder paste<\/a> to each jump ring to the side where the jump ring join is. Add just enough solder to cover the length of the jump ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place each flower (dotty middle face down) on a heatproof block and place a jump ring horizontally on the top of the flower. The top half of the jump ring should hang over the top of the flower, and the bottom half of the jump ring (where the join and solder is) should be in contact with, and sit flat on, the flower shape. This is so the earring hooks have something to hook through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7307.jpg\" alt=\"Add solder paste to jump ring\" class=\"wp-image-24533\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 12<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heat each flower shape individually using a hand blow torch until the solder melts and flows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leave to cool for a minute.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7311.jpg\" alt=\"Heat solder until it melts\" class=\"wp-image-24534\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 13<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quench (cool) each flower shape in water using tweezers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, place each shape in a warm pickle solution for 5 minutes or until clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remove the shapes from the pickle using plastic tweezers.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7317.jpg\" alt=\"Quench to cool\" class=\"wp-image-24535\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 14<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polish the silver flowers for your earrings using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/Jewellery-Tools\/Connoisseurs-Silver-Polish-Cloth--2ply-279mm-X-355mm-prcode-998-CN10\">silver polishing cloth<\/a> or in a barrel tumbling machine with shot,<br>barrelbrite and water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You could also use a pendant motor with mops and rouge, as well as silicone polishing wheels to add shine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add a brushed scratchy finish by rubbing each flower with a metal wire brush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:29px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7318.jpg\" alt=\"Polish silver using a brush\" class=\"wp-image-24536\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:29px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 15<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attach the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/Findings\/Sterling-Silver-Hook-Wires,--------Pack-of-6,-With-Bead-And-Loop-prcode-NVK-007X\">hook wires<\/a> by gripping the hoop of the hook wires with a pair of snipe nose, flat or chain nose pliers on one side and a pair of snipe nose, flat or chain nose pliers on the other side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twist one pair of pliers forwards to open the loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"272\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cooksongold.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_7324.jpg\" alt=\"Open hoop on hook wire using pliers\" class=\"wp-image-24537\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 16<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thread the earring loop through the silver hoop at the top of the flower. Close the hoop by<br>gripping the hoop of the hook wires with a pair of snipe nose, flat or chain nose pliers on one side and a pair of snipe nose, flat or chain nose pliers on the other side.
