Step 1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Use a permanent marker to make a 1mm dot from the outer edge on the Silver hammered washer. Place the centre punch on the mark and hit the top of it with a hammer to make a mark.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Drill a hole in the mark made with the centre punch.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Take 6 (or more or less) Silver headpins and bundle them up so all they cross over and meet in the middle at about 15-20mm. Add flux to the cross over point and a small amount of medium solder.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 4<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Heat the headpins very gently until the solder melts and flows. Use your tweezers to quench the joined headpins in water and put in a warm pickle to clean.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 5<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When the headpins are clean and dry use shears to cut off the ends.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 6<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hammer or file the joined headpins so they are flatter and neat. Use micromesh or emery sticks to smooth the edges.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 7<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Place the Silver washer face down and place the headpin bundle on top, opposite the drilled hole. Add flux and easy solder to where the headpin bundle and washer touch. Gently heat using a blowtorch until the solder melts and flows. Quench the washer in water using tweezers and add to a warm pickle to clean.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Repeat this process to make two earrings.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When the washers are clean and dry, rub a polishing cloth all over to bring out the shine. If you have a barrel tumbling machine use this to the shine the earrings.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 10<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Add Platinol to any detailed areas of the earrings to blacken these areas. Rub with a polishing cloth to lighten and blend the black. Follow the instructions very carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 11<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Take a Silver hook wire and grip the loop either side with flat nose pliers in one hand and snipe\/chain nose pliers in the other. Twist the pliers to open gently. Be careful though as opening and closing an earring wire repeatedly can cause the wire to become brittle and break.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 12<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thread the loop wire through the drilled hole in the washer. Make sure you have the earring facing forward when worn. Close the earring hook by gripping the loop either side with the pliers and reversing the twisting action.<\/p>\n\n\n
