Step 1 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Support the silver ring blank on your benchpeg and use different shaped needle files<\/a> on the edges to go back and forth removing the metal and adding detail. You might wish to mark out where you want to file using a permanent pen.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 2 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Place the silver ring blank on a solid stable surface or steel block. Place the point of the centrepunch<\/a> on the ring blank. Strike the top of the centrepunch gently so that it leaves a mark. You can draw out your design or where you want to make marks first using a permanent pen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may wish to tape the silver blank down or hold it in place using double sided tape.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 3 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When you are happy with your design place your ring blank on a soldering block and heat gently all over until the silver slightly glows. Heating the silver softens it so it is more malleable when shaping into a ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When cool add to a warm acid pickle to clean.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 4 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When clean and dry use impressart pliers to gently squeeze along the silver ring blank and make a ring shape. You can also use a triblet\/ring mandrel and leather mallet to shape the silver blank into a ring shape.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 5 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Polish using a silver polish cloth<\/a> or add to a barrel tumbling machine with water, shot and barrelbrite for 30 minutes. You can also rub a steel burnisher on the edges to add shine.<\/p>\n\n\n
