Jewellery maker Anca gave up her career in engineering to start her own jewellery business, and now makes a wide range of pieces by using traditional techniques as well as crocheting. Learn more about her unique jewellery designs by reading about her work in this interview\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Let us know a bit about yourself, detailing your background, study and training in the jewellery making industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am in fact a construction engineer! Six years ago, I decided \u2018that is enough with my engineer career\u2019 and I wanted to take a break, so I started to make some easy handmade jewellery, just for myself. But, I also started to buy gems that I was totally in love with. So I thought that I have to do something bigger, and I have started my own business. After that, I thought I have to learn more about jewels so I graduated more courses for jewellery making and design in my country, Romania.<\/p>\n

Tell us about your work \u2013 are there any particular materials or techniques that you favour?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In my jewellery, I try to combine handmade jewellery techniques with classic techniques.<\/p>\n

\"Anca<\/p>\n

Also, I create crocheted jewellery, that I think represents me. I have a lot of success with my unique crocheted jewellery. Lately I have discovered silver clay and I am in love!<\/p>\n

How would you best describe your design style?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unique, different and exquisite.<\/p>\n

As a jewellery maker, where do you like to get your inspiration from for your pieces?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Especially from nature, flowers. I have also created a collection inspired by the unique Romanian blouses, called IA. There are so many designs (motifs) all over my country!<\/p>\n

Do you have a piece that you have made which you favour or are particularly proud of?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I do have a special set; a necklace, earrings and bracelet inspired by bell flowers, crocheted with silver wire, hematite and pearls.<\/p>\n

What is the one item in your jewellery making workshop that you could not live without?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My pliers!<\/p>\n

What upcoming trends do you see being popular soon?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think that metal clay will be the future, because it offers endless possibilities!<\/p>\n

What is the most valuable lesson you have learnt from your time in the jewellery making industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n

That patience and love are the most important thing, and not only in jewellery making! But for jewellery, patience is the most important!<\/p>\n

Do you have any particular advice that you would give to up and coming jewellery designers, or someone interested in getting into jewellery making?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jewellery made with love transmits the best energy!<\/p>\n
