What is Gold Leaf and Silver Leaf?
At Cooksongold we offer a range of gold leaf and silver leaf for decorative use but what exactly is gold leaf and silver leaf? Gold leaf is made from genuine gold, the exact carat of gold will be specified but here, our gold leaf is made from 24ct and 23.5 carat yellow gold as well as 23.6 carat red gold options too. The gold has been delicately beaten into a thin, fine sheet and then placed between wax pages to make them easy to lift.
In jewellery making, gold leaf is generally used for:
Adding decorative detail to resin or enamel
Adding decorative detail to metal surfaces
Using in textured designs
Adding to clay for a luxury finish

True gold and silver leaf are made from genuine metal and are highly malleable, requiring careful handling. Imitation leaf offers a budget-friendly option for similar visual impact without the higher cost.
Type of Gold Leaf
The gold leaf options you come across will often be the same with the main difference only being either the gold carat or the quantity of sheets sold however you may have noticed that we offer a different variety which is referred to as gold foil.
Gold foil is still generally the same as gold leaf with the only real difference being the thickness of the sheet.
All of the gold leaf and gold foil options we supply are made from real gold and will therefore ensure long lasting, high quality results in your jewellery making.
Alongside our range of gold leaf we also supply silver foil. Made from fine silver, this is also a great option for decorative work.
Application tools include gilding brushes, tweezers, and size adhesives (sold separately). Always handle leaf sheets with care, as they are extremely delicate and can tear easily.
