Despite this, rawhide mallets can be hit very hard and are useful early into their use, once they soften, these mallets can be trimmed down to prolong its use.

Used with a stake or triblet, rawhide mallet can help to form metal into your desired shape. It’s important to note, that rawhide mallets can soften after repeated use, but this can be remedied by trimming the outside layer.
