Hematite is a soft gemstone with a hardness of only 5 on the Moh’s scale. As it is a fairly soft, it is hard to work with, but with patience and nimble fingers, a carefully set hematite will draw attention to your piece of jewellery.
The word, hematite, is derived from the Greek name for ‘blood’ due to its red colour when in powdered form. The hematite is said to stimulate inner happiness and aid attainment of peace, and inner self control. Hematite gemstones are particularly popular for use in rings and necklace pendants. The larger the gemstone the more impact the jewellery makes, with its dark and reflective surface.
We stock beautifully cut round and oval cabochons ranging from a modest 6mm to a striking 20 by 15mm for those show-stopping jewellery designs. If you would like to know more about our hematite gemstones or would just like some more technical jewellery-making advice you can always call our customer services on 0345 100 1122 today.
