I keep trying the new pre made fluxes, but I always return to my borax dish and cone. Its an old friend, you know where you stand. Always predictable, you can see when it goes brown and glassy before youre solder is going to go.Another big advantage is that you can make it the exact consistency you require. Nice and watery to run into a joint, or thick to hold a pallion in place.Once you get used to it and learn how to solder "properly", theres no reason to change.

I like mine slightly runnier than a paste as I work with sheet metal a lot and that is what is great about this, you can add more as you need it. The down side, is that it does dry out quickly - but it is really theraputic.
