The Bench Peg and Anvil set comprises of an anvil
made from metal, and a wooden bench peg. The ideal
tool for those who don't have a Jewellers Bench.
The Peg is secured to the bench with a G Clamp,
with the 'slanted' surface uppermost.
The top of the clamp has a flat smooth surface which
is used as the Anvil - hence 'Bench Peg & Anvil'.
The peg should have an upside down 'V' cut into it
to help support the metal when being pierced.
The clamp opens to 5cm / 2".
Spare Bench pegs available 999 083.
NB. These differ to the ordinary Peg as they are
narrower in width. (Ordinary pegs may be used if cut
to size - 999 081).

The anvil surface has slight ridges, but you can make it perfectly smooth by taping 240 wet and dry paper onto a steel block and sanding the anvil in figures of eight - tip from Jonathan Swan, The Workshop, Lewes.

Not a bad piece of kit when youre working on a table . But the peg is a bit narrow.

Rating 4 out of 5 Make any table a workshop., 2 May 2008

I started my jewellery making with one of these clamped to my coffee table. Now I use it as a portable workshop whenever I need to work away from home. The anvil part is excellent for small forging tasks.
